Luke 4

Satan tempts Jesus in the wilderness and then Jesus begins His ministry in Galilee. He returns to His hometown of Nazareth and preaches from the book of Isaiah in the temple on the Sabbath. He tells the listeners that the prophecy from Isaiah has been fulfilled. But Jesus was rejected at Nazareth, his hometown, so he traveled down to Capernaum where He healed many, including a man possessed by demons and Simon’s mother-in-law.

Luke 5

Jesus calls His first disciples: Simon, James, and John (sons of Zebedee). He heals a man with leprosy and a paralyzed man. Jesus calls Levi and eats with the tax collectors and other sinners. Jesus is questioned about fasting and answers with a parable.

Luke 6

Jesus tells the Pharisees that the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath when questioned why his disciples were picking grain to eat on the Sabbath. He also heals a man’s hand on the Sabbath, further angering the Pharisees. Jesus went to the mountainside to pray and chose twelve of His disciples to be apostles. Jesus tells His disciples to love their enemies, do not judge, and ensure that they follow His teachings.

Luke 7

Jesus is amazed at the faith of the Centurion and heals the man’s servant. He raises a widow’s son from the dead and is anointed with expensive perfume by a sinful woman.

Luke 8

Jesus tells the parable of the Sower and how the seed is the Word of God. Jesus calms a storm, heals a demon possessed man, raises a dead girl, and heals a sick woman.
