Mission

The mission of Higher Hope Church is to “lead people to abundant life in Jesus Christ.” -John 10:10

Beliefs

It is only through Jesus Christ that we have a FULL LIFE. He became man, so that we may know Him. He willingly gave Himself up for us so that we can experience life, and life to the full.

The Bible is God’s Holy Word; it is without error; it was written by human authors under the guidance of the Holy Spirit; it is His love letter to us, His People.

All powerful, holy, all knowing, ever present, and beyond all that we think He is!

He is ever present in the lives of the followers of Christ. He convicts us of our sin. He instructs and guides God’s children, and He gives gifts to each believer.

The Church is God’s chosen instrument to work in the world.

We are sinners in need of a Savior. Our Salvation can only be found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. We are not saved through what we do, but only by God’s amazing grace.

Higher Hope Church is a member of the Churches of God, General Conference (CGGC). If you would like further information on the doctrine of the CGGC, please visit www.cggc.org.

Meet the Pastors

Hi there, we are the Schooley family! My wife, Jeanna, and I planted Higher Hope church in 2006. We left our well loved church in Chambersburg, PA to follow God’s leading and move to New York. We had three kids under the age of five, a very small bank account and no permanent home but there was no doubt God was calling us here. His story for our family was just beginning and we were ready for the ride.

Fast forward 15 years and what a ride it has been! We have watched our church grow and thrive. Our church family holds a very special place in our hearts and it has been such a joy to watch God change lives, ours included. There have been so many unforgettable and amazing #onlyGod stories along the way, our personal favorite being the  most beautiful (and much anticipated) church building.

When we aren’t at church,we are busy raising two high schoolers, a college student and a first grader. We love bike rides, the lake, playing in the yard with our dog, Finn, and Turkey Hill ice cream! Our life is very full especially with adventure; but we are so grateful for the life God has given us.

Senior Pastor

The Hungerford family would like to welcome you! We serve after God urged us back into pastoral ministry in early 2022. Over the past 25 years, I have plied my God-given gifts as an architect, construction manager, project manager, contractor, and director level leader. I have a heart for serving others, people-directed ministry, continual improvement, and a desire to see all who may come to follow Christ and realize their God-given potential.

Tracey and I were married and began our family in Waynesboro, PA. We relocated to Horseheads, my hometown, in 2005 and it is now a privilege to minister and serve in the community where my roots began. We are both graduates of Virginia Tech and I am also a graduate of Lancaster Bible College and Seminary. I am currently completing a Master's of Practical Theology with completion expected in 2023.

We have homeschooled our four children over the past 20 years and have now seen 2 move off to adulthood on their own unique journeys,... two more to go. Along the way we have been foster parents, youth leaders, served in missions together, scout leaders, and I continue to coach a local homeschool soccer team. I also serve in volunteer roles for several not-for-profit agencies.

We celebrate God's grace, His provisions, life, the opportunity God provides each one of us, and the knowledge that "we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:2) God has great things for each one of us!
