In today’s post, I will share a brief recap of of our week where we read through chapters 2-6 in the Book of Hebrews.

Hebrews 2

The writer discusses the role of Christ in salvation. We must pay very close attention to what we have heard so that we do not drift away. Jesus was made lower than the angels for a brief time so that He could come to earth in human form and taste death for everyone (v. 9). Jesus shared in our humanity so that by His death He would break the power of Satan’s hold over death and free those whose lives are held in slavery because of their fear of death. Jesus helps Abraham’s descendants, not the angels, so He had to become like them in every way, a merciful and faithful high priest who atones for the sins of the people. Since Jesus suffered when He was tempted, He can help us when we are tempted.

Hebrews 3

The writer discusses how Jesus is worthy of greater honor than Moses. Moses was a faithful servant in God’s house, but Christ is faithful as the Son over God ‘s house. And we know that God built everything! This chapter also warns us about hardening our hearts like the Israelites did in the rebellion. They were unable to enter God’s rest due to their unbelief. We must encourage one other daily so that we do not fall into sin’s deceitfulness.

Hebrews 4

A discussion of the Sabbath rest and ensuring that we remain the course and do not fall into disobedience so that we can enter God’s rest. For nothing is hidden from God and with Jesus as our High Priest, He can empathize with our struggles. Thus, we can approach God’s throne with confidence and receive His mercy and grace in our time of need.

Hebrews 5

God the Father appointed Jesus as our High Priest. He alone is the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him. While human, Jesus learned obedience through what He suffered. He was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.

Hebrews 6

The chapter provides a warning against falling away from the truth of Christ because it is as if one is crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. Stay the course, be diligent and not lazy, and imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. God’s promises are certain and we can trust what He says.

Have a great week!
