Day 4 – Dominican Republic Trip

If I had to give a title to today – I would call it a RAIN OUT. The Tropical Storm Beryl hit today. Nothing major just a lot of rain. So our game got cancelled, and we ended up having a free afternoon. Most everything in the DR, is outdoors. So when it rains it brings a lot of things to a halt as it did today. But the boys didn’t mind. They caught up on sleep (well so did I), then when the rain stopped they went to the beach to swim and then played some basketball.

So anyway let me walk through our day. We were suppose to play a game this morning but instead we switched things around and we spent some time taking groceries to a village. We first puts some bags together of rice, toilet paper, and some other items. Then we loaded up and drove for a while. It seemed like we drove on dirt roads forever. Then when we started going through the village we saw the poverty everywhere. We went to a small church and set up some chairs. The local people came and sat waiting to receive their groceries. While they waited Andrew shared a little of what God has done in His life… He did a great job. Then Joel (our interpreter) talked to the people. Then each of our young people were told to grab a bag and go pray with one of the townspeople and give them a bag. That was a stretch for many of them. But they did it anyway. They did a great job giving out the bags. We then we drove into a city, went to the “mall” and some of the guys ordered a domino’s pizza. Jordan was very happy.

We then drove back and enjoyed some free time during the afternoon. Some slept, some played basketball and some swam.

Tonight we got all of the groups together and heard about SCORE and what the others groups are doing.

The next two days are packed. Tomorrow morning we get to go do a baseball clinic. Then another game against a Dominican team in the afternoon…

Looking forward to the adventure tomorrow.
